Piedmont 14U (age 13 and 14) Information:

Recreational Teams:

Schedule:

Practices begin around the 3rd week in April.  Teams generally practice twice a week leading up until games.  Games start at the end of April and Run through the beginning of June (one playoff game will be played as a finale to the season).  The schedule is condensed, therefore some weeks they may play 3 games/week. Mostly weeknights, only a couple weekends.  Some teams work in a practice in between games.

Goals:

This is a competitive level of play utilizing all girl pitch and Babe Ruth Softball rules with no modifications. Batting is continuous and players may play both infield and outfield, but there are no inning play rules.  Stealing and leads are allowed, as are drop third strike and stealing home, also runs in an inning will be limited.  While this is a competitive age group, the coaches and players still work on core fundamentals. Score will be kept and there will be standings for playoff purposes.

Equipment / Uniforms:

Mandatory – Glove 11 inch or larger. Helmet with mask, and cleats.  Girls should wear black softball pants.

Recommended: Bat (can be full composite, aluminum or mix) length and weight will depend on the size of the girl (see a coach for recommendations). Fielders mask – this is very important and mandatory if a pitcher.

Balls are 12”

Jersey and socks will be provided (please email the league if your daughter needs an abnormally large jersey).

Field:

All games will be played on field 1 at Piedmont, occasionally Del Rec. There are occasional away games at neighboring leagues.  Bases are 60 feet.  Mound is 43 feet.

Teammate and coach requests / playing up or down:

Teams are formed by the coaches.  There are no evaluations at this age level.  We do try to grant teammate and coach request to the best of our ability, while keeping parity among teams for equal competition. If your daughter is 12 and shows exceptional ability she can request to play 14U and the coaches will make the ultimate decision. The player should still attend the 12U evaluation.

Fall Ball:

We offer a 6 week fall ball schedule beginning when school is back in session. Typically we do not have a fall team at this age level.

Tournament team:

The goal of the tournament team will be to compete in the Babe Ruth State tournament and Regional tournament. They will also play in a few tournaments in the surrounding area.  Most teams are formed in the spring via a tryout and compete in tournaments in June and early July. The entire league will be notified of tryouts and specific schedules for the team.
